PIONEER PRAYER

I pray whatever thing I do,
I'll never say what is not true;
Be willing at my task each day,
And always honest in my play.

Make me unselfish with my joy,
And honest with each girl and boy;
And kind and helpful to the old,
And prompt to do what I am told.

Bless everyone I love and teach
Me how to help and comfort each,
Give me the strength right living brings,
And make me good for the pleasure it brings.

AMEN

YOU CAN'T CHEAT THIS FELLOW!

When you get what you want in your struggle for gold, and the world makes you king for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself, and see what that guy has to say.
For it isn't your Mother, or sister or wife, upon whose judgment will pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life, is the guy looking back from the glass.
You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum, and think what a wonderful guy,
But the guy in the glass says you're only a chump, if you can't look him straight in the eye.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, and get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears, if you've cheated that guy in the glass.

DON'T QUIT!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
You can't smile but you can sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
REST IF YOU MUST, BUT JUST DON'T QUIT!

A WISE OLD OWL!

A wise old owl sat on an oak,
the more he sat the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard,
Why can't we be like that wise old bird.

WEATHER FORECASTS!

A red sunset foretells fine weather,
A red sunrise foretells wet weather.
Red at night is a sailor's delight,
Red in the morning is a sailor's warning.

HE DID IT!

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But with a chuckle he replied,
That maybe it couldn't but he'd be one
Who wouldn't say so till he tried.
So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin,
On his face if he worried he hid it,
He started to sing as he tackled that thing,
That couldn't be done AND HE DID IT!

There are thousands to tell you, it can't be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Then take off your coat and go to it,
Just start to sing as you tackle that thing,
That couldn't be done AND YOU'LL DO IT!

TRAINING!

It even takes training to make a winner of a thoroughbred horse. When I see so many failures in young people from fine families, failing to make good in the world, I wonder if such failures are not due to the lack of training.
